How to Solve Statistics Problems

Find the mean of the following data:

Class Interval   Frequency 
       0 - 9        5
      10 - 19       10
      19 - 29        8
      29 - 39        7
      39 - 49        6

Solution: To find the mean of the above data  will first add up the  frequency of the given data

Total frequency (N) = 36.

Now let us consider the  midpoint of the above class interval.

Mid Point   Frequency   FX 
   4.5       5   22.5
  14.5      10   144
  24       8   192
  34       7   238
  44      6   264
     172.1

Formula: Mean = $\frac{ΣFX}{N}$

                      = $\frac{172.1}{36}$

                       = 4.78

Question 1: Find the Median for the data 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
Solution:
The median is the separator of the date or the middle one

Here the median is 6.


Question 2: Find the mode of the sequence 10, 5, 8, 8, 8, 7, 5, 6, 1
Solution:
The mode in the un- grouped data is the data which is repeated the most.

The data which is repeated most here is 8 .

The modal value is 8.
